Los Angeles, California – July 8, 2025 – Shelby Legendary Cars ( https://www.shelbylegendarycars.com) is honoring the iconic 427 Shelby Cobra with a 60th anniversary edition of the roadster. Available for order immediately, only 20 examples of the component vehicles will be available. The limited edition sports car will be displayed during Monterey Car Week as the mighty Shelby 427 Cobra will be honored at various events including the 2025 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance for the first time in history.
“With so many movies, books and documentaries spotlighting his incredible story, Carroll Shelby has transcended from automotive hero to international pop culture star,” said Lance Stander, CEO of Shelby Legendary Cars. “In ancient Greek mythology, I’m sure he would have been declared a god with the 427 Shelby Cobra as his chariot.”
Carroll Shelby unveiled the sports car in 1965 as a bold answer to international motorsport competition. With a purpose-built chassis and Ford’s 427 cubic inch big-block V8, the Shelby Cobra became an unstoppable force on the track and an icon on the road. Autocar magazine declared the 427 Shelby Cobra the fastest car they tested in 1965 with a top speed of 165 mph. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, it was the fastest road car from (0-100-0 mph) for a staggering 20 years. The all-wheel drive Porsche 959 finally surpassed it in 1986.
Shelby Legendary Cars is the premier and longest continuous manufacturer of classic Shelby vehicles. Each 60th Anniversary 427 Shelby Cobra will be sold as a roller, a fully assembled vehicle minus the drivetrain. This gives customers the opportunity to select and install their preferred engine and transmission through authorized Shelby dealers.
“The 427 Shelby Cobra personified the American spirit and to many, Carroll Shelby himself,” said Gary Patterson, president of Shelby American. “These cars are crafted with the same passion and precision that defined the first generation models built by Carroll in the 1960s.”
Each 60th Anniversary Shelby Cobra has a powder coated frame, Shelby independent coil-over suspension, and Shelby four-piston disc brakes. The hand-rolled aluminum or fiberglass 427 S/C body comes finished in a standard color with special anniversary badges, twin Le Mans stripes, hood scoop, polished stainless quick lifts, stainless steel exhaust and original-style trim.
The interior is finished with leather seats, period-correct carpet, a 15-inch wood steering wheel, anniversary badging, a matching anniversary gauge set, and classic hardware. Serial numbers for the aluminum-bodied cars will be CSX1030 to CSX1039; this is the first time that CSX1000 VIN numbers have been used in over 10 years, marking their place in Shelby history.
Only 10 hand-rolled aluminum and 10 fiberglass bodied versions will be offered. A portion of the proceeds from each car will benefit the Carroll Shelby Foundation, helping kids “win the race for life” through its children’s health and educational initiatives.
“The current generation 427 Shelby Cobra honors a legacy that continues to shape the automotive world today,” said Stander. “And as America’s first true super car, we were compelled to honor it and Carroll with a special edition. Displaying them during Monterey Car Week, surrounded by the world’s most celebrated vehicles, is the perfect way to mark this milestone.”
